On July 23, 2024, Cummins made a significant upgrade to its testing capabilities at its European headquarters in Darlington, UK.
Cummins announced the official launch of its new fuel unrestricted powertrain testing facility at its Darlington campus in the UK. The new facility expands its European technology operations capabilities, placing Cummins at the forefront of ultra-low and zero emission power technology as the industry focuses on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving air quality.
Cummins Inc.'s Darlington campus includes an engine and exhaust aftertreatment facility, technical operations, and a range of support personnel. Cummins has approximately 1750 employees on-site, providing services to over 180 customers in more than 50 countries.
The powertrain testing facility has expanded Cummins' current engine testing capabilities and will test full powertrains using advanced diesel, natural gas, zero carbon hydrogen fuel, and battery power technologies. This facility will help support the development of various products from Cummins and Accelera, including Euro 7 and Euro 6 internal combustion engines, fuel cells and batteries, as well as key components such as axles and electric vehicle axles.
One of the challenges brought about by the explosion of vehicle power supply and technology serving it is the evolution of testing programs. Cummins is fully prepared to meet the needs of original equipment manufacturers. After an investment of over £ 13 million, this 738 square meter two-story facility significantly enhances Cummins' testing capabilities in Darlington, enabling fully robotic driving of manual or automatic transmissions, road slope and load simulation, wheel slip simulation, and engine load cycle reproduction.
