According to statistics released by Shanghai Customs on the 15th, in 2024, the total number of automobile exports from Shanghai's two major automobile export terminals, Haitong International Automobile Terminal in Waigaoqiao Port Area and Nangang Terminal in Lingang New Area of Shanghai Free Trade Zone, exceeded 1.66 million vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 26.6%.
It is understood that Shanghai plays an important role in China's automobile exports, with nearly 40% of China's total automobile exports going through the Shanghai port.
On January 9th, customs officers in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area carried out supervision on exported cars, fully ensuring the safe and efficient clearance of exported cars.

The Haitong International Automobile Terminal in Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area is located at the mouth of the Yangtze River, and is the largest roll on/roll off terminal for automobiles in China. It is also an important terminal for automobile companies from various provinces along the Yangtze River to go abroad. The export volume of automobiles has exceeded one million for three consecutive years.
Chen Jia, the head of the Customs Inspection Department of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Port Area under Shanghai Customs, introduced that the foreign trade roll on/roll off shipping routes of Haitong Port have covered more than 200 ports in more than 100 countries around the world. In 2024, a total of 798 foreign trade roll on/roll off ships arrived here, transporting a total of 1.298 million export vehicles.
The Nangang Port in the Lingang New Area of the Shanghai Free Trade Zone is another important automobile import and export port in Shanghai, following the Outer Harbor Haitong Port.
At present, the roll on/roll off shipping routes of Nangang Port have extended to 36 countries and regions in Asia, Europe, Africa, Oceania, South America, and North America.
In 2024, Nangang Port will export over 370000 vehicles, with nearly 70% of them being new energy vehicles.
We will focus on innovative regulatory models, make good use of the relevant policy dividends of Yangshan Special Comprehensive Bonded Zone, and unleash the development vitality of new formats such as automobile bonded transit. We will also focus on digital transformation, fully promote the construction of smart customs, explore the use of vehicle identification numbers throughout the entire customs clearance process, connect data nodes such as customs, ports, and shipping companies, and achieve both "manageable" and "fast" entry and exit of automobiles, "said Wang Luzhou, the head of the Logistics Monitoring Department of Yangshan Customs.
